The Virtual Swiss Alps Race

We've all been suffering from not being able to participate in races. I registered for the Oriflamme50KM (Apr 11), OC Marathon (May 1), PCT50-miler (May 16), and San Diego 100-miler (Jun 5). All of them have been either cancelled or postponed. The last race I ran was the San Diego 50-miler on January 18, 2020 and typically, I run at least one ultra marathon every month. Without a race, it has become pretty difficult to motivate myself to put in my training mileages.

To get my training back on track, I've put together a challenge this summer: a 400 and 800 kilometer virtual race around Switzerland. To make this a real fun event I'd like to have as many people as possible join me on this challenge. Are you ready to join me?

Swiss Alps 100

Time until the challenge ends: (August 16, 2020, 00:00:00 AM/UTC)

How does this work?

The Virtual Swiss Alps 800 started on May 16th and continues through August 16th (which is also the official finish day of the real Swiss Alps 100 event). During those 93 days you will have to cover an average of 8.6km (5.3 miles) every day to reach the 800km. Of course, you can run 20km a day and 2km the next. Or do 3 5km runs in one day. The main goal is to cover 800km before this challenge is over.

The Virtual Swiss Alps 400 will start on June 1st and ends on August 16th. During those 77 days you will have to conver an average of 5.3km (3.3 miles) every day to reach the 400KM.

You can either walk, run, jog, or sprint outdoors on trails, street, sidewalks or indoors on your treadmill. This should only be the distances you cover when you actually go out to run. Counting your total steps during the whole day from your device does not count. Wouldn't be too fair.

What do we get?

When you register you have the opportunity to buy a commemorative Swiss Alps 400 and 800 shirt and a medal. If you reach the full distance before the end of the challenge you will get your medal and you also will get a 10% discount code for the 2021 Swiss Alps 100 race. If you really want your medal in any case just let us know.

How do I submit my results?

Once this challenge starts you can come to this website every time you want to submit a result. You will be able to pick your name from a drop down menu and then submit your kilometers or miles you've covered. We will keep track of your total distance and also show you where you stand within all the participants.

It is a global event!

Every single runner around the entire world is welcome to join me! It does not matter where you live on this globe. The official race hashtag is #vSwissAlps800 and #vSwissAlps400 please use it when you post on social media. Join us at our Facebook page and share your experiences and progress.
